Jenny Branson - Design For Living
Jenny Branson offers both traditional faces to face Interior Design, as well as much more affordable e-design solutions for all manner of design dilemmas. She prides herself on getting the most for her clients' money without compromising on the finished design, and although she does offer a high-end service, she believes that the high-street has an abundance of fantastic interiors inspiration which more than caters for all budgets.
What inspired you to be an interior designer?
I've gradually fallen into Interior Design as a lifestyle choice which works around my four kids. My first love was as a Stylist & Writer for the original Real Homes magazine way back when. From there I went on to freelance for a number of interiors magazines, as well as a myriad of jobs for advertising, events and retail clients. I fell in love with the buzz of the magazine world as soon as I set foot in it - from the press shows to the styled shoots, it was an exciting environment to be a part of with new inspiration, ideas and designs coming to the fore all the time. I still love following the ebb and flow of these trends making waves from season to season.
If they were to make a toy action figure of you, what would your accessory be?
I'd probably be wielding a wallpaper lightsaber! I'm known for sneaking it into my designs wherever I can.
To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life within the design world has taken?
You can't control all the opportunities that come your way, but I'm a firm believer in making your own luck and I've certainly not sat back and waited for life to happen to me. I've worked for free to get my foot in the door, been on location in the back of beyond to prove I can get the job done, and said 'yes' as much as possible to get experience under my belt.
What would be your dream interior project?
I'd love to design a boutique hotel where the owners weren't afraid to push a few style boundaries. When it comes to clients homes, there is often a line which they are not willing to cross and this can be frustrating when you know the results would be amazing!
What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
I firmly believe that achieving outstanding interiors shouldn't be restricted by budget. Interior Design has historically been associated with a hefty price tag, but with the high street bursting with inspiration, there is no reason at all why this should still be the case. I offer packages which cater to all budgets and I'm always happy to look at new projects, large or small.
If you could go back in time and speak to your adolescent self, what advice would you give them about the design world?
The design world is like the fashion world, trends come and go almost cyclically, and old ideas are being re-invented all the time. I'd say don't take things too seriously and enjoy the ride. We're not saving lives here, but there's definitely a chance to enhance them by giving people the best possible environments for them to come home to.
