In Conversation with Angela McNeill, Interior Designer

ANGELA MCNEILL INTERIORS

A friendly and enthusiastic approach to really personal interior design projects.  Angela McNeill will define her work as a mix of residential design plus a few restaurants and commercial work thrown in for good measure. Her real passion is ignited when she spent time getting to know each client and can then design their interiors just for them - she loves to get to know what makes clients tick. She answered our questions :

What inspired you to be an interior designer?

Being in a lot of bad interiors as a kid! I just wanted to make it look better and my fascination with interiors has never left me.

If they were to make a toy action figure of you, what would your accessory be?

A boring one - a note book! I get inspiration from everywhere and love making little notes and writing down ideas and things to look up online later.

To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life within the design world has taken?

Slightly i guess - there was always a plan but along side a really open mind to try new projects - i'm a big believer in serendipity and going with gut instinct.

What would be your dream interior project?

A really eclectic restaurant design - i love to really thinking about the experience of the diners from any angle in the scheme and having a few quirky surprises in there too.

What’s something you know you do differently than most people?

I hum along to my electric toothbrush -

Professionally, I've been known to get clients to close their eyes and I talk them through the scheme like a story book to really get them to imagine it finished. That way, we can talk about the experience of the scheme as we go on to find all the parts.

If you could go back in time and speak to your adolescent self, what advice would you give them about the design world?

Stay friendly and honest and it will all come back to you - when i first started, i was worried about being too personal. I guess there is a balance but generally clients work with people they like.
